First Annual Wings for Heroes

It was a great night with lots of laughs. Vision 2 Victory held a TOPGUN tournament and Wing Eating Challenge at FLIGHTDECK Air Combat Simulation Center in Anaheim. There was live music by Kelly Rae, bar service and brick oven pizza by Pizza 900.

The winner of the TOPGUN contest was “Remove Before Flight” and couple of guys I suspect had been in the simulators a time or two. We had a side Dog Fight in the skies between USMC and ARMY with the Marines winning a very close match.

The HOOTERS Wing Eating Challenge was the event of the night and it was crazy out of control. RSS Anaheim went first with a time of 11 minutes 24 seconds. Army Anaheim was next with a time of 11 minutes 35 seconds. We then had a team of 2 active and 2 veterans that set a fast time of 9 minuntes 54 seconds. The last team RSS Santa Ana took home the honors with a time of 9 minutes 39 seconds. They walked away with a wing party for 10 people at Hooters. Special thanks to Hooters Anaheim for the support.

The silent auction brought attention with item’s from, CFR Gear, VooDoo Tactical, Pala Casino, Ka-Bar and the Grapeline.

All in All it was a very fun night entertaining the troops and raising a few dollars for a great cause. See you at the next event.

We were contacted by a Marine out of Camp Pendleton that wishes to take his wife and two little girls on the vacation they never had. This Marine enlisted in 2003, and was deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004, and again in 2005. After serving stateside for several years, he was deployed Afghanistan in 2010. His wife received TWO of the calls a spouse never wants. The first call of his injury by IED in the line of duty, but it was not life threatening. After treatment and returning to his unit, he was again injured in an ambush. His injuries were much worse this time and he ended up in Bethesda Maryland.

His wife has been pregnant throughout his deployment, and they have never had the chance to take a vacation as a family. His wish is to take them to Hawaii for the trip of a lifetime.

Vision2Victory has secured the use of several resort style timeshares that have been offered for the family. We are currently in need of donations to provide them the airfare to get there. If you feel that you can help, please use our “Donation Page” to help us fund this Marine’s Wish.

We are shooting to grant this wish in June or July. The timeshares are flexible, but we need to lock up airfare asap. Please donate for this Marine. You can tell us in the donation that you wish it to grant this vacation.

Some of our staff from V2V (Richard, David & Jenn) stopped by Danny K’s in Orange, CA for a quick bit to eat and a drink when we ran into this couple. They had come in to play some pool and have a drink. We saw the Air Force logo on his shirt and had to ask him if he was active duty. His reply was that he was leaving for bootcamp in 3 weeks. We thanked him for signing up, and told them to enjoy themselves and that we would take care of their tab for the night. They were surprised and nice enough to pose with David for the photo.

We found 9 active Duty Coast Guard and 8 active Marines, and well as 4 Marine Veterans and 3 Army Veterans that came out. Everyone had a great time, regardless of how we shot on the course.

The weather was great. The folks from D.A.R.E. made it obvious, they were happy to see us there. We felt welcome on their course. The tournament was a Shotgun start, with everyone teeing off at the same time from the hole they were assigned. It was a great day, that ended with a wonderful dinner banquet. There ware raffle prized handed out and then there was the auction…

On Sept. 17, 2011 there was a group of PGR (Patriot Guard Riders) and friends that rode out to a baseball field in Rancho Cucamonga. They were there to help the young brother of a Hero the PGR escorted back to his family about a year prior.

The young man is the little brother of SPC Ronnie j. Pallares. His name is John and he is 10 years old. Ronnie Pallares was killed in action on October 23, 2010 in Andar district, Ghazni, Afghanistan. He was only 19 years old.

When we got word that his young brothers bike had been stolen, from his backyard, we couldn’t help but feel heart broken. A small collection was taken, and the balance of a new Haro 200 Series BMX Bike was paid by Vision2Victory.

It was a big surprise to John, and all his friends on the ball field, when about 25 load Harley Davidson riders, and several cars of people rolled into the parking lot. When everyone parked, they formed a line that lead to the field. John was called out, and when he was by the end of the line, his new bike was rolled over to him. He gave it a quick test ride and did a round of hugs to all the people that made it happen. He then went back down to the field and continued with the team practice. You could tell he wanted to stay on the bike, but his team was waiting.

JR Surprised a Marine that was visiting Downtown Disney in Anaheim CA. He is a Marine Stationed at Camp Pendleton and was with his son walking through Ride Makerz when JR surprised his son by granting a wish of a custom R/C car. You can see the car in this image.

J.R.,

I’m not sure if you will remember me but I met you when you were on the field for the Arizona State University football game with Jeremy Staat. My husband, Nathan and I are both police officers and we were working on the field that night. I think you guys went and gave Nathan a t-shirt.

If you recall Nathan served in the US Marine Corps in Iraq in 2004 where he was injured twice. After the second injury he was air-lifted out of Iraq and given 2 Purple Hearts. Nathan spent 8 months in Balboa Naval Hospital and 1 1/2 years recovering from his injuries. After battling back, he became and Arizona Highway Patrol officer in 2007.

When it came time for the Marine Corps to medically discharge Nathan, after waiting out the 5 year medical hold, they were going to medically discharge him but Nathan fought to receive a regular discharge so he could continue his service with the US Army Reserves in Phoenix. Does this story sound familiar? He was able to re-enlist with the US Army Reserves and is actually on a 2 week assignment in Riverton, Utah (Warrior Leadership Training).

Anyway, I had talked to you about our family making a trip to Disneyland in March and you had said your wife worked there and to make sure we contacted you before we went. Well, I saved your card and now we have our plans set. We are going to arrive on March 10th. We will be getting the 2-day park hopper so we can go to Disneyland and California Adventure on the 11th and 12th of March. The main purpose was to take our nephew whose turning 3 in March (our baby is only 9 months and will never remember). But I truly don’t believe anyone enjoys being at Disneyland more than Nathan

Please let me know your thoughts……

Thank you so much,

Jennifer Borquez

MISSION RESULT!!!!!!

We just want to thank you SO much for getting us those seats! They were awesome seats….I was worried with grandparents and infants but everyone was able to stay awake long enough to make it to the show Our nephew (the one whose birthday it was) really liked it, especially the boat full of characters waving to everyone. I loved the special effects and how clear you can see the show on the spraying water, it’s amazing! Courtney was very pleasant and hospitable.

We wish we could have spend more time there. It’s really hard to see everything when you are with such a large group. I know it took a lot for both of you to arrange those tickets so again we want to thank you for all of your hard work.

I don’t have my camera at work to share any pictures but I am attaching a picture of our daughter with her mouse ears on for you

Thanks Again,

What we did: After a long talk with Mark we found out his love for riding Quads. He mentioned to us that one day he wanted to race Baja in the 500 or 1000 so we decided to give him a little taste in a Class 11 Stock Bug in one of the best races of the year. We took him through the steps of what it takes as a team to race. We went through Tech inspection, got him geared up and off the Starting Line. The race was 2 days combined and he got all of it. In the first 1/2 we were first off the line in our group, over insane jumps and in a pile up in the 3rd turn with 4 cars. WOW. It took us out of the race but Mark jumped back in the second day. We want to thank CFR Racing for giving up a seat and for treating Mark to a real thrill.

Goal: Give Laura an experience of a lifetime in the Positive side of bike culture.

What we did: Laura’s Father was a Veteran who loved to take part in parades and POW/MIA events. Sadly her father’s life was taken too soon in a motorcycle crash. We wanted to bring back all the good things she remembered prior to her hit in Iraq and her dad’s crash. We introduced her to a motorcycle legend Wink Eller. In their first meeting Wink had her on his land speed bike with an insane motor at full roar.

We took Laura to El Mirage to watch Wink run, then followed him to Sturgis for the 2010 Rally at the Broken Spoke Campground and then on to Bonneville Speed Week. After two weeks in the air and on the road we think Laura got a rockin adventure. We still need to get her on a ride but that time will come.
